Menopause Online - Gynecological Advice and Treatment

Is HRT for You?

HRT (hormone replacement therapy) may increase the risk of breast and endometrial cancer while decreasing the risk of heart disease and hip fractures resulting from osteoporosis. Results of this test can tell you if you will live longer on HRT or off. The results are based on a fifty-one-year-old menopausal woman starting HRT and continuing for at least ten years.

This test is based on a study by Nananda F. Col et al. published in the Journal of the American Medical Society 1997; 227; 1140-1147.

You will need to know your blood pressure, heart rate, and if you have high cholesterol or very high cholesterol. If you don't know, ask your doctor before you begin.
