Looking for the best homemade cold/flu cures!

I'm not one to take medicine for the everyday cold or flu ... what do you folks do for cold and flu, beyond chicken soup? My grandmother used to make us this concoction of various pantry items and herbs when we were kids, and it always made me feel better (although, it tasted REALLY awful!).

I'd love to read about your experiences with age-old family recipes or other homemade cold and flu recipes!
