My brother's doctor is saying he has some symptoms of Alzheimer's. My brother is only 56. Is this even possible?

My sister-in-law says my brother has been acting strangely for awhile now and forgetting things easily (he has been a little off ... but I just thought he was just tired). She called tonight to say that at a doctor's visit today, he was diagnosed with symptoms of Alzheimer's. But he's only 56 years old. Is this even possible? Has anyone ever heard of this? Should I encourage her to seek out a second opinion?
